President Johnson Holds Luci's Birthday Cake
In this photograph, taken by Abbie Rowe of the National Park Service on July 2, 1964 in the Family Dining Room, President Lyndon B. Johnson holds his daughter Luci's cake as she blows out the candles on her seventeenth birthday. Later that evening, President Johnson signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act during a public ceremony in the East Room.
